Sunday Roundup

It’s time for another roundup of the weekly news here at Chez Green.
You’ll find stories galore about reducing, reusing, recycling and composting our way to a zero waste future
Use it up!
We started the week by admitting to a very strange ‘use it up!’ ingredient I put into mashed potatoes. Even stranger was that it appeared to taste so good. Come and find out what we ate in order to reduce food waste and share your most weird ‘secret ingredient’.
Biodegradable shoes
This week we were sporting our new ethical, biodegradable shoes. Apparently, when they are past their peak, you can leave them in the sunshine to rot away! Come and find out which brand we’re wearing and learn more about their carbon ‘footprint’.
A tough decision
I reached a decision this week. A tough one it was too. It involved giving something up I’d been working towards for the past ten years. What about you – have you ever given up on a dream?
Recycled packaging
Gareth from Tree2mydoor took stage this week and shared about his company policy on fully recyclable packaging. He thinks right outside the box with his packaging to ensure it is landfill friendly.
The Greens on radio!
We had a great interview this week for “The Story” which airs in North Carolina. It’s a 25 minute beauty, all about our life before zero waste and what prompted us to start this lifestyle. What made you think about the waste you create?
Food waste Friday
We didn’t do quite so well with our food waste this week. Come and look at what food we had to throw out and check out our near miss dustbin demon.
Coming up
Next week we have Alison from Ella’s Kitchen telling us all about their packaging and why it’s now saved from landfill. You’ll be able to discover how to get free seeds for your garden and you’ll be able to hear all about the challenge I have set for myself and Little Miss green during spring – we hope some of you will join in!
Gee, what another great week. I love the Monster Munch story and fab work getting over to North Carolina. I discovered a great use for using up mashed potato last week, incorporating ithe mash into pastry to make a vegetable pie. I’d never done it before, but discovered that it improved the quality of the pastry no end. Anyway, hope you have another great week, catch up soon. Karen 😀 xxx
@Almost Mrs Average: Hey Mrs A – I enjoyed reading about the mashed potato pastry. I then went on to find a similar thing in a wartime cookbook I have so I’m going to try that – thank you!
