How to recycle a shower head

One of our facebook fans asked about recycling a shower head.

Greg is now the proud owner of a new ‘eco’ shower head which helps improve waster conservation, and wants to responsibly dispose of the old one.

There is nothing wrong with the old one, it’s just surplus to requirements.

I suggested Freecycle, but I’d love to hear your suggestions as I reckon you’ll come up with all sorts of creative ideas that wouldn’t even enter my mind:

A funky rain barrel attachment? Some interesting jewellery? A fun microphone for the kids paddling pool?

I have a watering can that long ago lost it’s head – the water just cones out like a hose, drowning my poor seedlings. Your post has inspired me to dig up our old shower head (in the closet from when we changed to a water saving one) and try to attach it in some way!

  2. i have long wanted to install an “outdoor summer shower” as my first shower was in a rudimentary outdoor enclosure behind my aunt’s farm…in France..water was warmed by sun in a large metal tank painted black..water ran off to the garden below in a cemented mini canal—so, why not have a luxurious playtime shower to dust off the kids prior to rushing into the house?

or else turn shower head into a flower frog to hold blooms in perfect order in short vase..i’ll be back to read more fun suggestions from your readers..

  3. Greg is also a fan of mine and asked me a similar question! I came up with this response: ” Heres a few Ideas: Can be re-used for make believe games as a microphone, tape it to a watering can that is missing the rose cap, Personally I think it could be repurposed into a strange sculpture by threading wire through the holes and mounting shapes or flowers on the end. You could maybe even screw small hooks into the holes and use it as a display stand for jewellery etc!!”
One of our other followers Donna suggested for really big shower heads it could be turned into a lampshade!

I love seeing creative responses to these questions and love the idea of an outdoor summer shower encorporated into kids natural play area, with water runs, sandpits and the obvious rainwater shower! πŸ™‚

@nadine sellers: love the shower idea Nadine; not sure how much warmth a sun dried barrell of water would get in an English summer, but kids don’t seem to notice anyway!

@Michelle Morgan @ Eco-Centricity: lovely ideas Michelle – see I knew you’d come up with something wonderful. LMG would LOVE that microphone!
