sunday roundupIt’s a little late this morning but I’ve been busy making a game out of scraps of cardboard. Little Miss Green has a favourite game at Grandma Green’s house called ‘Shopping list’. This morning she asked me to buy it for her. “Let’s make our own!” I suggested.
Hence, a lunchtime Sunday roundup rather than an early morning stroll around the site.If you’re new to MyZeroWaste, the Sunday roundup is where you can catch up with the news of the week and make sure you haven’t missed anything juicy on the site.

Ok then; we started the week with a very exciting meeting with Aunty Rubbish. Don’t know what on earth I’m talking about? Find out here.

As Gloucestershire’s zero waste week challenge gets under way, we launched a zero waste page dedicated to discussion, asking questions, sharing experiences and generally cheering one another along. Everyone is invited to take part and a warm welcome awaits you. So head on over and post away.

On Tuesday we wrote our last post about Christmas. We’d had a bit of a mishap; one which was on its way to landfill, but some of you more creative types came up with some great solutions to our dilemma and stopped us producing rubbish.

Wednesday was a very special day where we celebrated the one year blogaversary of someone close to our hearts. Go along and take a peek at her website and you’ll know why we have become great friends.

We sidled up to the scales for our weekly weigh in. Find out how we got on here and gasp in awe as you take a look at Mr Green’s brave antics.

Carrot cake got the thumbs up here this week. Read the recipe and have a go yourself. It’s perfect for zero waste week!

We finished the week with an inspiring post about a company who have figured out how to send glass in the post without any plastic packaging. It’s so easy you won’t believe it.

That’s it for another week folks. We are looking forward to zero waste week which begins tomorrow and we have lots of exciting things planned for the site. You’ll learn how to put an end to forgetting your reusable bags forever, how to eat ‘fast food’ without producing any packaging waste, we’ll be bringing you some great interviews with people taking part in the week and you might even get to watch me preparing some food in the kitchen – we’ll have to see about that 😉

Enjoy your Sunday, empty your bins before you go to bed tonight and best of luck to everyone taking part in zero waste week!

    Hi Mrs Green,

Jilly Cooper has made a fine contribution to the Zero Waste Week and we will surely all thank her for the extra interest aroused by her participation.

You may have to get used to mixing with such famous people in the times ahead, Mrs G. It also shows the value of Zero Waste as an idea.

We’ve had quite a wasteful weekend as I’ve attempted to cook for the cats! Have to tell Mr Ingles that his savoury biscuits weren’t appreciatted by the kits or their doggy friend 🙁 The tuna and chicken liver mix is going down well though. The amount I made is supposed to be enough for the week, but I can’t see that happening!

I have saved all the plastic containers though, as removing some of the contents from our compost bin and doing a bit of planting was also on the agenda, but I didn’t get that far.

Got some shopping to do in the morning and then we should be set for the week 😀

  3. Yay what a week Mrs G. Thank you so much for the party on Wednesday. Looks like you’ve got another fun week ahead. Good luck to you all. I’ve got a really busy few days coming up, but I’ll make sure I’ll pop in. 😀 xxx

So it wasn’t just me wandering out to the bin on Sunday night in the pitch dark because it was last call for rubbish before the new regime?!

I had a last minute panic on Saturday as my lovely oh decided it was the moment to get scything in the garden chopping back the overgrown bushes. He was right – it was a productive two hours and they look beautiful now, plus the weather was just the right side of cool for hard work. However I suspected rightly that this would inspire him to find other things to go to the HRCentre… Therefore the trip had to be done on Sunday with six bags of garden waste, two metal poles and some plastics from an old blind that sadly had to go into the non-rec bin.

@John Costigane: I was so pleased to see a celebrity getting involved with zero waste week, John. Already we have had a phonecall from the local paper – they are sending ’round a photographer tomorrow. It’s all good 🙂

@Poppy: What a shame about the cat food, Poppy. Cats can be such fickle creatures. I just stick to plain stuff; liver (which she eats raw), chicken and fish. How did the shopping go?

@Almost Mrs Average: I hope to see your around, Mrs A – and hope you have a great week too. It’s an exciting time!

@Kris: 😀 I would imagine there were several of us out there, Kris! It sounds like you are making alot of trips to the recycling centre at the moment. I wonder where all this stuff comes from in our house!
