Mrs Green

I am a long time supporter of the Green and Sustainable lifestyle. After being caught in the Boscastle floods in 2004, our family begun a journey to respect and promote the importance of Earth's fragile ecosystem, that focussed on reducing waste. Inspired by the beauty and resourcefulness of this wonderful planet, I have published numerous magazine articles on green issues and the author of four books.

Climbing back on the wagon (kind of)

It’s going to be a baking day today. Grandma Green’s Birthday is on Monday, but Little Miss green is going to a celebratory lunch with her on Sunday. I’d better not say to much more as no doubt Grandma Green will be checking in for her daily dose of zero waste adventures. Cakes are always […]

Weekly weigh in twenty two

I haven’t done a weigh in for three weeks now, so here is the past 3 weeks rubbish that will be heading to landfill sometime in the near future. It’s interesting; I was reading someone else’s blog a few days ago about reducing waste and their question focused on avoiding plastic bin bags. They didn’t […]

Monster moments

Filed in Blog by on October 28, 2008 12 Comments

Oh dear, apathy is really kicking in at the moment. Yesterday we were good on the food waste issue, but I just seem to have really ‘lost it’ with momentum for getting preparation and things done. I still have a tree full of apples to prepare before they get blown off and end up bruised […]

We all know what a big story food waste is at the moment. Over on one of my favourite green blogs, Hippyshopper, I discovered news of Appetite for Action. Our trip to the recycling centre was interesting yesterday. As you might remember, I had a heaving sack of stuff for the ‘non recyclable’ receptacle following my pre-Christmas panic declutter. But there was a silver lining to the cloud. Mr Green was carrying a bag of our landfill sins on top of some cardboard and […]

Landfill mishaps (and a bit of a Christmas ranty thing)

Filed in Blog by on October 23, 2008 25 Comments

Well there is still no food waste, but there is some serious landfill waste today. Yesterday I did that thing. I’ve been dreading Christmas already because of all the STUFF that people insist on buying for Little Miss Green. Let’s not go into the gift horse and mouths thing here. Or the ‘I should be […]

National Baking week and blogger bake offs!

Filed in Blog by on October 22, 2008 9 Comments

What I would do without you? Thanks to one of our regular readers, Maisie, I learned that we are half way through National Baking Week! How could that go unnoticed; especially as we are taking part in our second zero waste food week? As it happens I took part yesterday anyway, without even realising. I […]

Another week of our zero food waste challenge

Filed in Blog by on October 21, 2008 8 Comments

Yesterday passed by with no food waste again. In the morning, Mr Green and I did a little shopping, but we spent about twenty pounds, which is nothing like we usually spend. So with monetary savings as well as compost and landfill reduction, we’re still inspired to do another week of our food challenge. We […]
