Mrs Green
I am a long time supporter of the Green and Sustainable lifestyle. After being caught in the Boscastle floods in 2004, our family begun a journey to respect and promote the importance of Earth's fragile ecosystem, that focussed on reducing waste. Inspired by the beauty and resourcefulness of this wonderful planet, I have published numerous magazine articles on green issues and the author of four books.

Compost awareness week and how to tame slimy compost!
It’s compost awareness week! The most common issue my friends have is that they end up with a wet, slimy mess instead of dry, crumbly sweet-smelling compost. Never fear; Mrs Green (thumb) is going to help you put that right in one easy step!
Food waste Friday
Just a quick post from me today. It’s Beltane; one of my favourite days of the year and very special to me for a myriad of reasons. Ok, so perhaps I shouldn’t be celebrating until the full moon, but hey; I’ll celebrate twice! I fully intend to throw myself head first into making merry, making […]
Plastic and children’s toys
In our weigh in this week, I mentioned that we had some plastic in the landfill, from some fishing nets. One of the things that is really tough about trying to live a zero waste lifestyle is children’s toys. We keep toys to a minimum wherever possible and thankfully, Little Miss Green has such an […]

Mr Green’s comment when he saw me writing the title was ‘Oh my Goodness; nearly a full year!’ Yes, come the first week in June, it will be a year since we put our rubbish bin on a size zero diet. Well just to throw a spanner in the works, we really have supersized her […]
Just thirty seconds of your time …
Over on the American Chemistry Council’s blog summit, I was inspired by a post from Amanda Wills, Assistant editor of Earth 911 about recycling. She asked her readers a question about ‘going green’ and I want to ask the same question about recycling. Please take a moment to complete the following sentence in the comments […]
Get off your arse Thursday – week 8
It’s that glorious time of the week again when you are encouraged to knock something off your procrastination list. You know how great that feels! The ‘rules’ are that your chosen task must somehow help you to reduce your landfill waste. Then you can come back here, gloat about how good you’ve been in the […]
A week of decluttering – day three
I decided to move out of the kitchen. There is still more to do, but I need a change of scenery. I decided to tackle our office. I’ve not been able to find a biro now for about 6 months. (and yes, I now know that I shouldn’t be using biros anyway, but I have […]
A week of decluttering – day two
After sorting out some kitchen cupboards yesterday, I decided it was time to clean. I pulled everything out of the cupboard containing cooking oils and vinegars and was left with a bit of a mess. Not only were there plastic packets from baking ingredients such as coconut, ground almonds and semolina to be disposed of, […]
