It’s pasta for lunch

You remember the chicken in white sauce from yesterday? Well it didn’t all get eaten, so it becomes leftovers again!
I’ve realised this happens a lot at Chez Green; food seems to just keep on going. Little Miss Green’s appetite, like most children’s is pretty unpredictable, changing from one day to the next which is great for getting me to think on my feet (not so great for her who prefers ‘something different’ every day).
Today then, the leftover chicken gets mixed with pasta (in our case macaroni because it’s the quickest to cook) along with sweetcorn and red peppers to make a delicious creamy pasta meal sans plastic packaging.
I’m going to do an experiment too. I make quite a lot of rice pudding, but I do remember as a child loving macaroni pudding – those little circles of pasta drenched in a sweet, creamy sauce from a blue tin used to satistfy my craving for something comforting.
I’m going to cook too much macaroni and see if I can use up the leftovers in a pudding. I’m sure if I make it chocolate flavoured it will be a hit!
What about you? What are you up to today? Have you pledged to reduce your food waste this week?
Meanwhile, on the zero waste web of loveliness…
Caroline has decided to declutter her baking cupboard and far from feeding her family, I think she could feed a small town! Find out what she got up to on the first day of zero waste week .
Mrs A had another gorgeous sounding lunch made from ‘waste’ at the Saints Cafe – take a look at her amazing meal.
Sooz on the other hand is a tease by showing us her empty plates – of course, she’s just proving to us that she’s being good about creating food waste this week.
There’s a plea from Juliet who wants your broccoli stem recipes over at Crafty Green Poet.
If you’re fed up of all this foodie talk, Susie over at “Handmade and Fabulous” is having a recycled week to showcase the wealth of talent in the handiverse that creates products, partially or wholly, from recycled parts. You’ll find earrings made from aluminium cans, necklaces made from paper and rings made from skateboards!
Or you can coo at Alex’s worms over at the Cafe Direct Headquarters (mind you, they are rather cute).
Tomorrow (got my posts in a muddle, sorry about that!) I’ll be sharing opinion of a chef who claims we should be eating EVERY part of the animal, including the unmentionable bits and you can see how my chocolate macaroni pudding turns out…
National Zero Waste Week is sponsored by Tetra Pak. Tetra Pak cartons are already collected and recycled at the kerbside in 28.3% of UK Local Authorities .. and more to come!
