Help SAVI by signing their petition. One day YOU could need help stopping an incinerator too.

I had an email from Maggi and Helen from SAVI (STOP Aylesbury Vale Incineration) asking for our help.

Formed in March 2009 SAVI is a group of local people campaigning against plans to site an EfW (Energy from Waste) incineration plant in Edgcott.

According to their website, although the concept of creating electricity from waste sounds attractive, examination of the evidence shows the case against incineration is damning.

According to their research, incineration:

  1. Releases greenhouse gases.
  2. Creates toxic emissions and hazardous ash.
  3. Exaggerates future waste quantities instead of increasing volumes of recycling & composting.
  4. Poses significant health risks.
  5. Is often forced through in the face of strong public opposition.

They believe the alternatives to incineration are cheaper, more flexible and better for the environment.

SAVI have created an e-petition to call on number 10 to intervene to STOP Aylesbury Vale Incineration. They need 2000 signatures by the end of June and are asking for people to join them in their campaign to stop incineration.

Please sign up and spread the word amongst your friends, community and colleagues. You never know when you might need the help of others to prevent an incinerator being built in your local area. Here’s your opportunity to pay it forward …

    Hi Mrs Green,

I have signed this important e-petition which shows the concern of ordinary citizens for this unwanted, unsustainable technology. Everyone who feels strongly about the issue should sign-up. If this is successful
we can poll, and poll again, until the message gets through to the politicians.

  2. Layla says:

Does it help them if someone from another country signs?

    just curious..
/Also about who the names etc are available to see..?)

  3. Mrs Green says:

Thanks everyone. I’m not sure that you can sign outside the UK, Layla, as it asks for a postcode … The last 500 people to sign were listed further down the page. Numbers were growing steadily, so let’s hope they reach their target number of signatures.

We also have a similar Waste to energy plant planned for the town of Invergordon just north of Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland. Help us stop this project by signing our petition.
