October is bra recycling month in the US
Last year we shared 7 ways to recycle your bra and some of you shared your own links in the comments section.
October is the 2nd Annual Bra Recycling Month in the US, which is a great opportunity for women to recycle their bras whilst bringing awareness to domestic violence and breast cancer.
Bra Recycling Month 2010 concluded with over 7000 bras recycled. This year, the goal is 10,000!
When you recycle your bras during Bra Recycling Month you’ll be entered into a prize drawer which includes goodies such as t-shirts and jewellery gift certificates.
All you need to do is put your unwanted bras in a box or envelope, fill out the recycling form and include it in your box. Mail to :

The company behind Bra recycling Month is Bra Recycling.com who are a textile recycling company. They buy and sell recycled bras, then re-distribute them through exporters and organisations to developing countries around the world.
One of the campaigns they support is Operation Community Outreach.
Whilst most of us will have happy memories of being excited to get our new school uniforms and of having the cool shoes and rucksacks, many children do not get that chance. Another school year comes with dread, disappointment and another reminder that they are “poor” and many pre-teen and teenage girls do not have access to a proper uniform, let alone a proper-fitting bra which can affect their confidence and self esteem. Recycled bras provided by The Bra Recyclers will help fulfill their unique need.
If you’re not in the US, why not have a rummage through your underwear drawer anyway and donate your unwanted bras to a good cause – you could help someone who is homeless or donate to charity…

I love that the bra’s are re-distributed through underdeveloped countries! Every woman deserves proper support! 😛

Strange you should mention this as I was just talking to my mum the other day about bras. We usually have a bra fitting every year but not so far this year with one thing and another. I am thinking of doing it v soon and I usually put my old bras in a recycling bank.
Who knew there was a bra recycling month? That’s awesome! I’m guessing most of us have bras we never wear that are at the bottom of the drawer. What a fabulous idea to redistribute them. Thanks for the information.
Apparently the average UK laydee has 11 bras in her drawers (let’s not get confused here..cupboards!) that she NEVER wears!

Just took my daughter to get another fitting at Debenhams the lady there asked if we would like to recycle her old one although when I asked what happens to the full box she wasnt too clear!! but hopefully someone knows

I’m delighted to hear that at last there’s something we can do other than throw our bras in the bin. It seems a shame that we can’t just all swap them with each other, but i do know that they (like knickers) are not made to last,.

Our waste (food, clothes, toys, electronics etc..) is truly mind-blowing in its scale and in my blog I’m also trying to tackle this.
