Win plantable cards from EcoHip!

We’ve featured these gorgeous cards from EcoHip a couple of times on the site when sharing zero waste Valentine’s day ideas and rubbish free Christmas suggestions last year.
Sure it’s nice to make your own cards or even go paper free and send ecards to ensure there is no landfill waste, but for some people (i.e. people like me with zero artistic ability) and some occasions only a ‘real’ card will do.
EcoHip have the answer with their plantable cards. The cards are made from 100% recycled paper which is embedded with a selection of wildflower seeds. When your loved one has finished displaying the card, they find a sunny spot, spread a thin layer of soil onto the paper and water well. In 6-8 weeks their flowers will bloom, creating a special gift to remember which is completely biodegradable!
EcoHip’s plantable card range includes:
* Baby congratulations cards
* Congratulations cards – perfect for weddings
* Mother’s day cards
* Condolence cards
* Blank greetings cards for any occasion
Naturally my first question was whether or not the cards were packaged in cellophane! I didn’t want you winning a great prize only to be left with landfill waste to dispose of. I was quickly reassured the wrap is compostable corn; just cut it up and add it to your compost heap!
EcoHip is a great name, and founder Steve Chasan explains: “The word hip means ‘now’ or ‘happening’. We believe the time is right to come together and start a green revolution.”
To help you start your own green revolution, Steve is offering one lucky winner a selection of 15 plantable cards.
All you have to do is leave a comment below. For a bonus entry, hop over and ‘like’ the new EcoHip fan page on Facebook. (let me know when you’ve done that)
We’ll select a winner using a Random Generator in a week’s time – so be quick!

What a great idea will be purchase some for friends birthdays
What a brilliant idea. I think this would be perfect for condolence cardswhich are always so difficult to get right. Growing flowers in memory of a loved one sounds loke a lovely thing to do. I’ve followed EcoHip on Facebook.
The ´Hello Bundle of Joy´ cards are just lovely. I stopped buying Christmas cards a few years ago because of the waste. Plantable cards are a fantastic idea.
What an absolutely fantastic idea!! Right for all occasions – and it stops you feeling guilty throwing away cards with lovely messages inside.

Plantable greetings cards – why haven’t I heard of them before! Just brilliant. Periods of sadness and joy make you supersensitive to nature around you – well they do me – so I agree that planting something to remind you of a special occasion or of someone is a great way to do that.
When my father died years ago I made the wreath for his coffin out of the flowers (and some vegetables – just the leaves not the roots as well – but that’s an idea!) from his garden. It was made with love from me and you can’t buy that. I am very aware of what was flowering at that sad time and I think of him fondly when I see those particular plants blooming each year. I also have a jasmine plant in my garden which my father planted for me when I couldn’t because I was pregnant. So that is special because it reminds me of the father I’ve lost and the baby who has now grown up and left home!
What a superb idea – and there’s always the possibiity that the flowers would self seed for future years as well.

These are a smashing idea! At the recycling center where I work, we give out little bookmarks as business cards. They have our address, hours, phone and website, and they say “planting the seeds of a brighter community.” They are made the same as these cards, from 100% recycled paper, and with seeds in them. They’re great! Plus the printer who makes them for us donates tons of wildflower seeds to us, so our office is surrounded. Lovely!
The only card worth buying. Very sweet and novel idea

What a great idea for children’s birthday cards. I think most children don’t give a second thought to the cards they receive but something like this encourages conversation both about the environment and gardening. Fabulous!
