Follow our progress in the zero waste challenge. The good, the bad and the downright rotten (usually back of the fridge) stories. We blog our daily events, tips and experiences to show that reducing your household waste is possible, it saves you money and helps to protect the environment.
Sometimes, you just have to face up to the rubbish in your fridge
Well you just can’t get away from it, can you? All my talk of baking and actually doing some zero waste houseworky things yesterday and instead, I thought I’d skive off. Little Miss Green visited a friend yesterday morning which freed up my morning to do much more interesting things than sort the fridge. In the afternoon we took them to one of our libraries...
Climbing back on the wagon (kind of)
It’s going to be a baking day today. Grandma Green’s Birthday is on Monday, but Little Miss green is going to a celebratory lunch with her on Sunday. I’d better not say to much more as no doubt Grandma Green will be checking in for her daily dose of zero waste adventures. Cakes are always better made in advance and left to fudgetise for a few days...
Weekly weigh in twenty two
I haven’t done a weigh in for three weeks now, so here is the past 3 weeks rubbish that will be heading to landfill sometime in the near future. It’s interesting; I was reading someone else’s blog a few days ago about reducing waste and their question focused on avoiding plastic bin bags. They didn’t think they were ready to forgo a bin liner...
Monster moments
Oh dear, apathy is really kicking in at the moment. Yesterday we were good on the food waste issue, but I just seem to have really ‘lost it’ with momentum for getting preparation and things done. I still have a tree full of apples to prepare before they get blown off and end up bruised and squashed. I have things to take stock of in the fridge, a freezer...
Appetite for Action aims to reduce food waste
We all know what a big story food waste is at the moment. Over on one of my favourite green blogs, Hippyshopper, I discovered news of Appetite for Action. According to the Appetite for Action site, everyday we bin 4.4 million apples, 5.1 million potatoes, 7 million slices of bread and 2.8 million tomatoes. Read More →

Our trip to the recycling centre
Our trip to the recycling centre was interesting yesterday. As you might remember, I had a heaving sack of stuff for the ‘non recyclable’ receptacle following my pre-Christmas panic declutter. But there was a silver lining to the cloud. Mr Green was carrying a bag of our landfill sins on top of some cardboard and was going to put the cardboard in its proper...
Landfill mishaps (and a bit of a Christmas ranty thing)
Well there is still no food waste, but there is some serious landfill waste today. Yesterday I did that thing. I’ve been dreading Christmas already because of all the STUFF that people insist on buying for Little Miss Green. Let’s not go into the gift horse and mouths thing here. Or the ‘I should be grateful’ thread. I AM grateful and touched...
