A tool for zero food waste

What a wonderful hour I spent on the phone yesterday. You know how it is when you talk to someone you’ve never met before and you just ‘click’? Well I had that pleasure when talking to the lovely Clare from one of my favourite sites, veg box recipes. It seems that over 125,000 unique visitors a month agree with me about this fabulous resource too!...

Weekly weigh in eleven

Yes, yes, I’m late. I know. There are two reasons for that. Firstly shame. I mean, can I really bear to tell you what went into our bin this week? Secondly, and much more fun, I had something rather exciting in the post this morning, which has meant other things have taken the priority slot over my Wednesday morning weigh in. Here’s a big juicy clue. So...

Mining our landfills for valuable recyclables

Following a post on Peter’s environmental notes yesterday, I was alerted to an interesting interview over on the BBC. It’s a short interview, well worth listening to, with Peter Mills, commercial director at New Earth Solutions. His company is considering rubbish mining. In the interview, you’ll hear how entrepreneurs such as Peter Mills, are waking...

How to go zero waste with magazine subscriptions

I have to make a confession. When it comes to magazines, I treat them like a lover. When one arrives at the door, I run upstairs with it, hidden away. I make sure Little Miss Green is happy doing something and then I sneak upstairs to bed for an hour of decadence. It’s one of my ‘me time’ rituals that I love and I’m not sure I’m prepared...

Tesco slashes bag use by 40 per cent

Good news from Tesco as they slash their carrier bag use by 40%. They claim this has been done by offering customers the incentive of having points put on their loyalty card every time they reuse their own bags. The original article was published on Business Green yesterday and was via Big Green Switch: The unofficial race between the UK’s leading supermarkets...

Decluttering books

I was thinking about the pledge I made to myself yesterday. About actually TAKING things to the charity shop or listing them on Freecycle, instead of living among piles of ’stuff’. I walked into my room where I keep all my books this morning and was confronted with masses of them. I’m quite sure they breed overnight. I got rid of hundreds of books...
