onya back reusable bag
I’m thrilled to be test driving a reusable Onya Bag.

If you’ve read our article on plastic carrier bags, you’ll see that a reusable bag is a much better option for the environment. It helps keep plastic out of the landfill and reduces the amount of rubbish you produce each week. Using your own shopping bags is the perfect first step towards your own Zero Waste challenge.

Dan from Onya is a self confessed compost maniac and recycler, creating less rubbish every six weeks for his entire office than the average householder creates in a week.

Dan’s the Man!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Onya bag. The frequent complaint from people about reusing bags is that they’ve been left at home, in the car, at work.

Well, the Onya bag isn’t called this quirky name without reason. No, dear readers, the Onya bag is deigned to be Onya at all times by means of a functional carabiner clip.

You can clip these beauties onto your belt loop, key ring, bag or anywhere else you choose to dangle things from.

The bags themselves roll back into a tiny pouch, a bit like a parachute, or a cat in a cat box. Once tucked away these Onya bags are only about 4 inches long and are as light as a feather, unlike a cat in a catbox. They come in a mass of colours from khaki through to pink and everything inbetween.

They hold loads; I’m quite sure they have a secret false bottom in them and unlike carrier bags there is no risk of breakage (who has lost their shopping on the carpark floor?) and because the handles are fabric, they don’t cut into your hands.

There are bags for every occasion – backpacks (the onya back), weighing bags (the beautifully named ‘Onya weigh’) for fruit and veg (You can read more about that little fella here ) and even your dog can have his very own Onya Dump for all those thoughful gifts they leave on your neighbour’s drive.

How to claim your discount

As well as their range of bags, Onya are proud stockists of reusable drinks bottles and wrap-n-mat; the sandwich bag alternative.

Why not shop early for Christmas and give all your recycling friends the present of a lifetime?

Again, a little late, but would love to voice a big “YEY for Onya bags!”

I got mine through “The Age of Stupid” film (http://www.spannerfilms.net/films/ageofstupid) who were selling them with their film name on (otherwise I might never have heard of Onya!) and it’s been with me since I got it when the film came out! 😀

  2. Mrs Green says:

@Tracey: Yay! We’re great fans of our onya bags and they are still going strong after years of use. What did you make of the film?

  3. Tracey says:

I loved it – in a terrifying fixated horror kind of way! 🙂
I’m doing a degree in Environmental Studies (via the Open University) at the minute and have now quoted it in nearly every essay I’ve done! That and The Inconvenient Truth! 🙂

  4. Mrs Green says:

@Tracey: Ahhh, I loved the inconvenient truth; I thought it was very compelling…Good luck with your degree!
